I just made a new one that goes back and then down towards the hole in the firewall. No kinks or up directions and it is fine. I’m pretty sure it had no bracket. The hose should flex keeping any stress off the tube. I assume the end should be just somewhere that you can get some spanners to disconnect it. However, can someone help me identify my “left over” part on my 300C that I think may have supported the oil pressure hose under the dash. I don’t think it was on the engine side. It is light gauge metal about an inch wide and five inches long. It has a hole for a screw at one end which has a bend in it and at the other end an open J shape with a 3/8” diameter. I thought it might be for holding the hose out of the way of the driver’s feet but it might be for one of the other cables. Nothing seems to line up though. If someone knows what this is, would they send me a photo or a clear description of the installation please? It would be appreciated. (And yes, I believe this is the only part I had “left over” after completely pulling apart the car!) As I continue with the assembly of my 58 D, I had to fabricate a new steel oil line from the L-fitting on the back of the block near the distributor to a point in the air on the other side of the block. At this point the steel tube ends and a flex oil line tube ( courtesy of Gary) connects via a tube nut and continues up and then a sudden reverse turn down and through a hole in the dash panel. Once inside the car it is routed up again to the back of the right cluster pod. That is all well and good but I am a little concerned with the amount of free play this steel line has and then the rout of the flexible oil line. It is funny that it goes up for an inch or two and then makes a sharp turn down. It would both seem like a straighter rout would have been configured and also that a bracket of some kind should hold the steel tube in place but there is nothing on either of my cars...C or D. Anybody else think it is a bit weird to let the block-to-gauge oil line float like that without some attachment to the block?
