Yes very narrow - 4.5 inch - 4.75 inch nominal for both 7.60-15
and 8.50-14 in the 60's. Problems keeping the wider treads flat on
the ground before the advent of belted tires. In addition to
squirm, wider treads could have stability issues at high speeds
(100 mph or so). The BF Goodrich HT Silvertown introduced in 1961 or 1962 was advertised as wider and taller (on shoulders) "HT" stood for High Tread compared to everything being used as Original Equipment in that vintage (the design used for the Goodrich 8.50-14 repro is a previous more narrow tread design). And the HT Silvertown design is the Tread Design used on the
7.60-15 Goodrich repros - so I think 5 inch tread width is on the
wide side for that vintage but correct. As a point of reference I have a NOS Firestone 500 in 7.60-15
from the late 50's that is only 4.5 inch tread width. Edward Mills
