Bob,Yes, it was 1/2 inch drive and is not a fine piece of machinery but it has worked for a lot of different things, like removing wheels from cars! No, I do not use the air impact to tighten the bolt, I use a breaker bar and try to retrain the engine from turning best I can. I do not verify the torque value of the nut. As I recall it goes on a taper lock and is not a slip critical joint. My keyway is very tight and not much torque on the bolt will lock a taper up sufficiently. I've never had a problem with looseness. It's always been how to get it off!My pressure regulator is set for 90 psi and was all the way up on the impact wrench. I think it's a great way to get the bolt off because it doesn't require you to lock the crankshaft from turning. It needs to be the very cheapest andsmallest HF sells though.

I don’t like to assume things, so what size was the air impact wrench? ½” drive? Did you also use the same air impact tool to tighten the bolt? If so, how did you verify torque on the nut? Any recollection of the air pressure the regulator was set for?

On my 62, Chuck Hill told me that if I bought the cheapest air impact wrench from Harbor Freight (it was $29) it would just fit and would work. He was right.

Hi Dan,
If you text, send me your phone number and I will send a picture of the tool that I borrowed from a mechanic.
