I agree, Val; ..all my experience is 61 and older. Maybe Mopar did use the donuts later on .

Yes, AMC used doughnuts on Gremlin 6, I had one new for wife. Every 10k-15k  miles a leak started . Quickly gets worse. 

 

Maybe a mechanic tried to put one on a 300----head pipe on Mopar has to be bent right,  square to manifold flange , and attached firmly with hard gasket, it generally never leaks there. Today’s high end gaskets tend to be a metal matrix for that.. Much better than yesterday’s. Maybe a patch job was done with donuts due to slightly incorrect head pipe flange bend? I took to using one size down stainless bolts and nuts on far side rather than the exhaust manifold tappings –you know why. While on this never ever hang exhaust pipes from exhaust manifold flange while working on it, or installing it  ; head pipe alone might be ok, but issue is the bolt flange WILL  snap off the manifold if you hang mufflers etc by head pipe, and then try to move around. Pipe has a lot of leverage on that small flange. . Ram F exhaust manifold was the victim, , of course, ----cannot be had anywhere.

Doughnut gaskets are a Chevy

Thing. Mopar used flat steel

Gaskets big blocks. Or ball

And socket flange small blocks.

Ball and socket is the best no

Gaskets to burn out.

Hi Mark, the original part number was Mopar 1855029 and they were all metal gaskets. Current inexpensive replacement part is Fel Pro 9547 or equivalent, but probably not metal. Mancini Racing or one those outfits probably has metal ones which will last longer; just make sure it has a 2.25” center hole and 3.5” bolt hole spacing to fit the exhaust. Might be other Mopar part numbers that fit as well; same size gasket was used on many big block Mopars.

Hello All,
 
I have a ’63 300 Conv, formerly with a 383, now 413 with dual exhausts.  The exhaust system has been the same for 29 years since I purchased the 300, with both 383 and 413 engines.
 
In the past, I have had a local muffler shop install what they called “donuts” between the exhaust manifold and the exhaust pipes.  This helped with reducing noise, but also kept the pipes from shaking and hitting the torsion bars, etc.
Now, I am looking for a part number or source to get these “donuts”. Over time, they needed to be replaced since I believe they get crushed.  I do not see them listed in the shop manual.  Any information would be helpful.  Thank you.

PS – I assume this would be the same exhaust set up for 300K 413 non-RAM engine.
