Hi graphite no good at head bearing -/ you need oil . Needs to work it’s way into that brass bearing . Graphite ok in cable shroud , although I think light oil (10) just as good particularly with used cables . Graphite is already there but carrier oil has dried up .I hang old ones up vertically for a week run 10w oil in top till it comes out bottom . Same with park brake cable . Works great for me . On park brake I use 75w Mobil one rear axle oil .. Great stuff- it stays , flows a bit into cable , anti rust, and chemically stable unlike junk lubriplate white grease that turns solid .Front end grease is better if it has to be greaseSent from my iPhone not by choiceJohn, thanks. I had previously heard of using a graphite lubricant. Any thoughts on thatOn Wed, Jan 1, 2020, 7:38 PM John Grady <jkg@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote:Be sure to unscrew the serrated nut on speedo head next to where cable attaches and drip 10w oil in . It broke for a reason usually the grease gets hard right there . A toothpick pushed through old grease might be needed to get oil in . That input thing should spin freely .If unlucky your odometer might have jammed , means out It comes. But usually the lubrication at inlet bushing dries up .more oil frees it .Good luck !JohnSent from my iPhone not by choice

Folks, my speedo cable stopped working this summer, I had lubricated it 10 years ago. This summer I decided to get a new reproduction cable from Van's auto at Carlisle. Any tips for removing and installing the cable housing assembly? I have it unscrewed at the back of the speedo, and am aware of where it enters the tranny.Ron KlinczarBuffalo. NY65 300 in Ice Blue
