RE: [Chrysler300] 64 K headrest questions

I have a complete 1964 PASSENGER CAR PARTS CATALOG.  In the rear of the catalog are sections for the  INTERIOR TRIM of the different brands.  There are decent drawings and parts lists of the interior components for the 300’s coupes and convertibles with bucket seats and leather or vinyl seats.  The pictures do not show tiny details such as screws, clips and the escutcheon plate that fits atop the seat back and trims the area around the headrest socket.  More the soft goods.  However, there is an item in the parts list that might be that item: Page 1T-246; Code: 23-108-23; Part number 2494608; INSULATOR, Front Seat Back Headrest C2, C3, Y1 (300, NY, Imperial).  Dodges apparently do not have headrests on their buckets.  If that is the correct part number, it would be found atop any ’64 Chrysler or Imperial bucket seat-with a headrest.  And, probably a ’63 and maybe further back.  If you could send me some pix of your broken plate, perhaps we could determine interchangeability.

Back on Pages 23-153A & 153B are good pictures of NY/Imp bucket seats and a Salon split bench seat with reclining backs and headrests.  The bucket seat pix does not show headrests or the trim piece.  The Salon pic shows an item surrounding the headrest post as Code 23-108-20  Cover or Plate (Front Seat Back, Headrest).  Going back to the TRIM section, on Page 1T-246 I see a number of items under that Code which I believe to be the external wrap-around vinyl or leather cover for the body of the headrest and, of more interest, C2-M, Y1-M (paint as required) 2 ½” wide: 4317 VX9 and 1.62” wide:  4310 VX9.  I believe the 4317 VX9 may be the part number you seek.  I would not be surprised to find the part number stamped somewhere on the part.

I can scan a few pages for you.  Do you have a coupe or convertible?  Leather or vinyl seating?

Gosh, I how I hate that parts manual.

Bingo!

I just cut the top open on the passenger seat, and the foam is indeed cutout for the plate to mount all the way down. No so on the drivers which I looked at first. Thanks for the pics.

Does anyone have a copy of the parts book page in question? I am looking for a plastic top plate cover, the one I received is cracked up quite a bit and would like to search one out.

A friend just dropped of his 64 New Yorker seats to get done but took these pictures that might help.

I am retrofitting headrests to my K buckets. I have bought used setups and was just test fitting everything before I drop the seats off at the upholstery shop, hopefully next week.

First question is, does the shaft slide top plate sit on top of the leather and is then tightened down as far as it goes? There seems to be a limit as the horizontal bar inside the seat is presently placed high enough to cause the top plate to just be close to the top of the seat frame inside if you push down hard, but not flat up against it. So the screw holes don't line up that high either, but mounting on the seat frame would mean that the top plate will pull down and lie well below the surrounding leather/foam. Is that how they came?

Another question pertaining to this. I cannot find the headrest parts pages in the J Holst parts books online. The body chapter ends at 23-67-204. The headrest in a later picture of the bench seat shows it will be under 23-108-19. I looked at 63 as well, chapter 23 in the parts book stops short as as does 64.

Does anyone have a printed book that could send me that page? Curious to learn if the bench seat and bucket seat parts are the same.
