Another variable is how long the arm is . If not the same as old one it can never work correctly . Think about it . If obviously longer or shorter , or shaped differently you can change it with weld rod or coat hanger wire . Clean steel rods till shiny and solder , copper wire wrapped around joint . You can make the snap around the float hook shape too that way . I found that Ford still sells a pack of two brass float cans as a service item , look the same as ours . Plastic foam is junk I am sorry ,do not have Ford part number , but parts guy can find it . Last , we really don’t care about full end , we need it right 1/4 and below . You can get there . I too count miles... I installed solid state regulators in some cars versus the pulsing stock mechanical one . They can impact the empty end . Never adjust the dash gauge , becomes a bag of worms . Best to stay stock on regulator is my feeling now . I have never seen failure personally — except what follows : It is critical that regulator metal frame is grounded in dash ( sometimes it is in oil or temperature gauge ) .Why that ground wire jumper is there on astrodome , Near gauges . However it is under a sheetmetal screw going into the plastic of dome — not so good . I now solder a ground wire directly onto shined metal of regulating gauge or regulator , run to a real ground stud . If ground does fail, regulator will see / think it is zero volts at output , it stays closed instead of pulsing , that puts 12 v on gauges made for about 5v regulated (average) this will burn up ALL your gauges in 10 minutes . Why mopar added the jumper I think . Pretty steep warrantee repair and may damage senders too . Ground is the issue , not the regulator ...
