Re: [Chrysler300] Thompson Power Steering Pump

All good, but don't  forget to cap the atf tubes on the bottom of the Radiator.
If the rad starts leaking into the cooler part it will run out of the uncapped ports.

I agree with that , also put an ATF line filter sold to add to an automatic . Goes in return line to PS pump . Gets rid of any circulating junk coming out of PS box  .

While on this , I am wary of Heat exchanger in radiator on our cars  . Quite  a few failures which is a real disaster , antifreeze in trans . So Hayden makes an atf cooling kit - largest one , for towing .   Last few cars disconnected radiator cooling and used that , mounted as you describe .No issues,     eliminates an unpredictable bad failure mode ..
Whatever , can also see wanting the stock  look . Don’t want stock problems though .   That tradeoff gets harder as years pass ..

I would recommend installing a power steering fluid cooler which is what I did on my C after experiencing the original to burn out from the heat of the driver’s side exhaust manifold being in close proximity. I had a 2001 GMC 4 wheel drive transmission cooler installed in front of the driver side of the radiator yoke beneath the horns and routed the power steering hoses to it.  The pump has lasted so far 15 years since being rebuilt by Jeff Carter.  300’ly, Rob Kern

Our 300 Club member, Frank Troost, also has a ‘57 NYer convertible that has a Thompson p/s pump. He’s had a couple bad ones - and is asking if there’s a work-around to use a different setup than the Thompson. He’s just installed yet another rebuilt one, so we’ll see if this one holds up.
This ‘57 is an a/c car.
