The History / Issue: - 1962 300 Sport - Sitting for 8-10 years playing dead; after I cracked the 413 block, living on the 405 freeway in So. Cal; ugh! - My wife bought the car in 1989 & wasn’t too pleased with me overheating her car; as she had built that 413 with the dual inline carbs - It has a 150 speedo, that worked fine many, many years ago. - Now my 17 year old has rebuilt a 383 for the car, installed it & we picked it up from the brake shop today. - The speedo seems to be frozen at 15mph. - I unscrewed the (brand new from Imperial Services) speedo cable from the back of the speedo head…the cable tip fell on the floor - I suspect the speedo was frozen….the cable was spinning in its housing….and separated the cable tip from the flex cable (I will get under the dash tomorrow…take the speedo tip & slide t back into the speedo head….see if I can rotate the speedo one way or the other with my hand. I suspect it will be frozen. Then what? Pull the speedo out of the dash?) The Question: - Can I pull the flex cable out of its housing…had the tip re-crimped back on…slide the flex cable back in WITHOUT pulling the transmission end out of the trans & thus its fluid? - OR - Do I need to pull that speedo cable off the side of the transmission, capturing the trans fluid & pull off the speedo gear to be able to slide out the flex cable? Thanks!
