{Chrysler 300} 1962 Trans Gearshift Control Unit

I am going to replace the Shifter Cable & the bulb that lights up the buttons.

I have done all shop manual steps; so it is free from being attached to the dash.

Are there any helpful hints to pulling the Unit down & out of the underside of the dash to then remove & replace the cable?

I have successfully cut up my forearm trying to wiggle it down & out; to no avail.
