Hi Noel , most likely the small capacitor in power pack , all that goes wrong
-- replace with panasonic 630 v plastic film cap same uF as stamped on cap in there . ( can buy it at Mouser ) under a dollar . Most are .1 uF if I remember right . It is probably arcing inside and deteriorates more as he drives along , especially the original white bendix one . they are junk . Old caps used paper insulation which degrade with time Or get rebuilt supply .
