{Chrysler 300} Transmission

Can anyone out there confirm for me that the transmission in the photos is the same, except the valve body, as the 1964 300K (not RAM)? It appears to be an early 1965.

 

I picked up what looks like a spare unit with a what I think is a very late production of the 1963-1964 transmissions. As far as I can tell from the Master Parts Books that sometime in 1965, they switched over to the units without the rear pumps and also to the newer slip into the transmission yoke. The serial number on this one seems to be in the last batch of 1500 or so before the switch.

 

I checked the bell housing to make sure it is a big block and not a small block. 130 tooth on the ring gear.

 

My plan is to rebuild it with all the NOS parts I can find, Raybestos Red friction discs, their treated steel plates, billet actuator pistons, and better bands and levers. Other than that, just watch closely all the tolerances and especially the end play.  I may or may not do the 300K RAM changes to the governor and a couple of other items, but with a 2.76 rear gears it may well just be a waste.

 

Before I spend a lot of time and money to rebuild this spare unit, I want to make sure that I am working on a correct core. That would be embarrassing and expensive if I screwed it up!
