Hi All, I just got a new set of arm rests. Over the decades on all of my 1964 Chrysler’s I have noted that the front door arm rests seem to crack at the machine screw plastic boss. They
were clearly under engineered as to longevity. There are two sets of two holes of which only one is used on each end of the arm rest. Has any done or thought about a way to increase the life on these? One thought I had was to make a little plate with a stud and nut, that goes through the unused hole and has a hole for the side that has the screw into the door. I would drill a
little hole in the door web and rivet the plate to the door. That way the plastic armrest area would have the point load spread out between two holes in the plastic. I would also use a plate over the stud on the top and where the screw goes into the arm rest
to act as a sandwich on both sides of the plastic. I would not mind hearing folks’ thoughts on this. Best, James.
