Good stuff.  Thanks.  No one says anything about difficulty backing
the cluster out of the case, so I guess I need to look again and try
harder.

This does confirm that the park cable housing is crimped into the
retaining bracket, as I suspected, and I'm not going to have any luck
freeing that up without getting the thing completely out.

On the tranny end, John DeV. reports that he couldn't get the access
plug off.  I had the same problem.  I believe it is a 1/8"NPT pipe
plug actually, and the internal Allen cavity rounded out almost
immediately.  I didn't want to unbolt the entire housing if I could
avoid it.  So, in desperation I pounded a 7/32" 12 point box wrench
onto the head of the plug, and that worked perfectly!

Back at it tomorrow.
