according to the Chrysler Corporation Press information service
Date February 9
Two new high Performance engines designed and developed by Chrysler
Corporation
there are 2 versions of the hemispherical engines .
one version is intended for use in sanctioned closed- circuit track races.
second version is designed for us in supervised acceleration trails (drag
races).
Version one circuit comes with 4 barrel intake and single 4 barrel
carburetor
Version two comes with ram intake manifold and 2 afb carburetors
Both engines are available with either a new extra heavy duty 3 speed
torqueFlite automatic or new Chrysler -built 4 speed manual transmission.
Drag strip engine will run a Pomona in Factory experimental class Feb 14 to
16 Engine will be know as "Super Commando" in the Plymouth and in the
Dodge line it will be called "Hemi Charger 426"
Acceleration version will be introduced in Competition in February at the
Daytona Beach International Speedway.

I heard from one of the ORIGINAL CHRYSLER ENGINE ENGINEERS for race
development directly that he was the first one to have a STREET hemi
in a regular passenger car, a 1965 Coronet wagon that he raced on
Woodward back in the day as part of their "development" program.
