Andy,

I already responded in another thread that Hooker Comp headers are cheap and will work with your 360 in an early B-body, even with power steering and the big starter.

I did this swap. I am using the original cable-shift 727 and torque convertor, which is neutral balance. 360 is external balance. You can weld weights on the convertor to balance it to the engine. Easier still, I got the B&M flex plate that is made to mate up a neutral balance convertor to the 360 LA. Engine has zero vibration.

I got a later radiator with the water outlet on the correct side for the newer water pump. My original alternator and power steering brackets bolted up just fine.

You can use your original pulleys. You will need to take a die grinder or file to one hole on the crank pulley, which is offset slightly on the 360.

Someone had long since pulled the kick down from my car. I bought a Lokar kick down cable kit.

Driver's side mount is different 318 to 360. You can easily use spacers to make your original work. I bought all new mounts from Schumacher. Engine dropped right in.

Fellers,

First off, I apologize for asking SO many questions about different engine swaps. I'm real limited to what I can do because of where I live, and there ain't anyone around to help me! Thanks for understanding! :)

Looks like my 318 Poly is going to need a full and complete rebuild, which will cost more than I can spend right now. Because of that, I've decided to drop a newer, running 360 that I can get for cheap, into the car (and still keep the original 318 Poly for a later rebuild). I'll be using the engine mount adapter kit from Schumacher.

Transmission - will my original 64 trans bolt right up to a newer 360? I've heard I'll need to get the torque converter balanced, but that otherwise it shouldn't be a problem.

Exhaust manifold - can I use the original 318 manifolds that are in the car, or do I need to get a set of 360 manifolds (or even better, some headers from TTI)?

Anything you experienced guys can tell me, especially something I might be overlooking, would be greatly appreciated!

Regards,
Andy
