Hi
Why would they need the Diameter of the pinion seal to determine the
axle seals??
Since if the car is bone stock the axle seals they are all the same ,only
the pinion seal changes . The inner axle seal is a Chicage Rawhide 15200
,the outer seal is a Chicago Rawhide 13500. You must pack the axle bearing
with grease prior to installation as they are not lubricated from the rear
axle supply,(use a good quality wheel bearing grease).
The seals are still available through the normal parts network.
FYI ,To determine the rear pinion diameter the best is to use the axle
housing casting number : 2070741 is a small pinion (1 3/8" ) ; 2070742 is a
large pinion (1 3/4" )
On some 63's the early housings were installed and these castting numbers
are as follows:
1820657 is a small pinion 1 3/8" ; 1634985 is a large pinion (1 3/4").

Greetings!

Forgive me if this an ignorant question.

How can I determine the outside diameter of my pinion
seal on my rear brakes? I am here at work (no manual
with me) and I honestly am not sure what the pinion
seal is.

The reason I am asking is that yesterday I placed an
order with Kanter to get rear bearings & seals, wheel
cylinders, etc. They called back this morning. They
need to know the outside diameter of my pinion seal.

My car is totally stock regarding the rear. Does
anyone know what the diameter would be? If so, please
email me @ elane352@xxxxxxxxx or
elane@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I will check the FSM when I go home tonight.

E. Lane
