Yeah I did the K&N thing as well. No big difference that i could see which reminds me I should service it. 
The check engine light is most likely a EGR service reminder and nothing more. The dealer can turn it off for you.

Re gas milelage and prices. I sat down with a ying yang I know one time who was going to trade cars and spend thousands of bucks . I asked how far he drives a week and what kind of mileage he gets. I sat down with the cacluatosr and figured for him that even with the higher price of gas he would only save $136 per year with the increased mileage that he smaller car was supposed to get. He felt pretty foolish after he worked it out about 4 times hisself and discovered it was true.
As for th mighty MAx wedge. It is the price of a movie i figuire everytime i take it out and it is more funthan any movie i have seen so I don't worry about it.
Steel gaskets work fine, no trouble. Why not plane more though . the heads are too think as produced. We regularily take .080" .090" of tthese heads and have absolutely no trouble. A quick check is it sould average .043" from machined surface to quench area casting surface. If you have a real good reason for quiting machining early then OK but if someone is suggesting that it is wrong unsafe or dangerous you are being misled. Tell them to stick to Cameros. You are just machining the head to it design specs at 80ccs.
We have bought here a set of Heddman headers that just plain do not fit. The pipe is righgt where the starter goes and there was no possible way to use them so the owner and a friend moved the pipe by making a new section and welding it in. I was disappointed to find this with a Heddan product but when he called me a showed me it was undeniable and yes we treid the new mini stater and the original as well.
