or just place the cardboard over the sealing surface of the pump, use a small hammer to score the cardboard around all the edges and holes, and follow up w/ an x-acto knife to trim everything out...

I am putting my 440 back together and the FelPro gasket set I have
doesn't include the gasket for the oil pump. The auto parts stores
around here are worthless when it comes to finding this gasket (what
ever happened to the good old auto parts stores).

Can the pump be installed without a gasket using RTV or where can I get
the gasket? Does anyone have a part number for it? If so, they can
probably order it.

Thanks in advance,
Ken

Ken I would recomend that you DO NOT use RTV. That stuff has a nasty habbit
of squeezing into the pan or oil gallery and plugging up the works. You can
call Fel Pro and ask about a part number. What I have done in the past is make
my own. You can get a sheet/roll of thin gasket material. Lay the pump on top
of the material and trace the outline of the pump. You have to have a center
hole for the oil pump shaft in the gasket material. When you have it cut out the
flip the pump over lay the gasket back on the pump again and push your finger
in the holes for the bolts and oil inlet/outlet. This will leave an
impression in the gasket. Take the gasket lay it on a hard surface (steel is best) take
a 1/4 drive socket (somewhere around 5/16 in size) line it up over the
indentations and hit the socket with a small hammer with a couple of sharp blows.
This will cut out a perfect circle for the holes needed. You just have to figure
out which socket size is the right size for the hole. I have done this for
all types of bolt ons and it works quite well in a pinch.
