The AFB on my dart gets pretty decent gas mileage. 

If I remember right, the metering rods in the AVS are a 3-step instead
of the 2-step like you find in the Edelbrock Performer models.  This
does help your cruising mileage as long as you are geared to run in the
throttle range for the mildest step.  Supposedly they are more bit more
tune-able.  But most Carter style carbs didnt need a bunch of tuning or
retuning once you got them working well.
