 I don't know about the burning out part, but any way you can remove the
rubber without damaging the metal parts is fair game. The polygraphite
does act like a bushing, and needs greased at assembly. The bushing is
supposed to allow the parts to turn freely, where the original was press
fit and used a torsion type resistance between the lower control arm and
the torsion bar. With the polygraphite, you don't have to set front end
height before you tighten the big nut on the control arm stud. Anything
moving will squeak later, so grease it up good.   Tom in Dallas
