 There is enough oil slung from the side clearance of the rods to cover
anything the squirters would have hit. 
 Andy,  you said over half of the bearings did have the notch, just use
those in the rod half and you can rest assured that some oil will pass.
You think there is any way to PROVE a failure of lubrication to the
piston underside or cylinder walls, caused by the bearings not having a
notch?  Clevite will probably invite you to use their competitor's
bearings, if you have doubts.    Tom in Dallas
