318 Poly windage tray install problem

To any of you 318 Poly guys that have a Milodon windage tray installed - did you encounter any problems with the studs (from the Milodon stud kit) not fitting correctly?
 
Here's the dilemma - they thread into the #3 and 4 main bolt holes just fine.  The problem is that the top of the cap is about 1/2" below where the threads for the nut stop - so there is no way to tighten down the main caps!
 
I double and triple checked - I have the right install kit (even though it says for big block chevy on it...).  This is the last thing keeping us from buttoning up the bottom end - argh!
 
Can anyone help?  I'll be calling Milodon tomorrow...
