Mine (in those days) simply had removed the lever for the col. shift and a Hurst "dragmaster" floor shifter installed. It all looked very neat and professional...however...I constantly was tearing the sychronisers out of the tranny . The car was under warrenty and they fixed the thing 4/5 times, but the tranny (even tho it was supposed to be beefed up) couldn't take the "413 ized" 383...it even had the Max wedge exhaust system. Lord the memories ! There are no interchangeable parts past the turn signal switch, except for the shaft will be the same length. You probably want to find a '65 cable column, with the cables, to maintain stock appearance and factory reliability. You could also pull the shifter lever from the column, and find a floor shifter to use.
