I believe they are somewhat different.  Maybe not in the electrical  sense, 
but in the physical shape.  I bought a new one for my '64 Belvedere  from NAPA. 
 They pulled a catalog out and there were several listed for the  different 
years and models.  I seem to remember there being a different  part number for 
a '64 Dodge versus a '64 Plymouth.
