Also, what is the idle speed set at? Too low idle, with a little wear and
the light will come on!

You did not say if this was a fresh motor, or almost 40 years old, assuming
that it is original,  there has been some wear on everything since new I.E.
more oil going past bearings, as well as less volume from the pump, a gauge
will
tell the real story, I have seen engines as you described run for many years
after this condition showing up, It undoubtly does not help them, but
appears
not to be instant death either.  Not sure what the pressure rating on the
switch is, would assume it to be around 5 lb. give or take a couple so
having the
light on does not mean that it is not getting any oil,,,,,,,,,,,,,
