Good point, Doug ... but eBay did have an impact on price.  Today the 
demand per unit has been dramatically increased as a result of the 
convenience of the Internet.  And when demand goes up ... so does the 
price, as the demand for an item is constrained by the awareness of its 
availability.  Savvy sellers 10+ years ago may have listed it in 
national magazines such as Hemming's, but could not have imagined that 
they could reach the entire world market ... instantly ... through the 
Internet.

Add to that the relative anonymity of most eBay transactions, and an 
environment is created that is favorable to huckstering.
