63 Dodge Dash

I am thinking about building a custom dash by taking 2 housings and 
welding them together to make it twice as long, so I can put all kinds 
of need gauges,radio, gps etc. My problem is I don't want to cut things 
up until I find out if the dash pod is aluminum  or pot metal. I can 
weld alum and not pot metal. Please advise Don, herwig@xxxxxxxxxx or my
