Neal...NEVER put an oiler on a paint air supply line...your gut was right.
If you have a "community air supply" then add a filter (and reg. if hvlp) 
at beginning of air hose...keep this hose dedicated to paint supply only.  I 
have a short 25 footer in my paint room that NEVER is used for anything 
else...period!) . I regulate the air in the paint room from the dedicated 
filter and regulator in the paint room which is supplied from my big 
compressor which is regulated to "tool" pressure...there is a filter on the 
big compressor also. The reg. and filter are not expensive add ons.
I build fine furniture and shoot a lot of Lacquer ... it's VERY moisture 
sensitive and I have never had a problem since double filtering at gun...

what do u guys think of the possibility of contaminating paint with oil
from inside airlines.
   They say compressors all make a little oil in  their air; although
   mine is a  teflon-coated oil-less compressor,so maybe it wouldnt .
   But then I have this oiler built in to the regulator/ moisture trap
   inline unit. I have never filled the oiler, because I am thinking-
      " well now wait a minute, wouldnt that just coat the inside of my
      airlines with oil and then when I go to paint the car I have oil
      in my airlines!!!"
    So far I have just been oiling the tools themselves in the handles.
    What do u guys think, is this overthinking or am I being smart.
