Scott,

To remove the bulb socket wasn't easy.  I crushed it with a pair of 
water pump pliers(channel locks), and gradually worked it out.  A vise 
would have helped.  I destroyed the socket in the process, but it didn't 
matter.  Don't be alarmed if the housing gets a little bent in the 
process.  It's not hard to straighten it back.
