I think the last year was 1967. It is easy to tell the difference looking at the front balancer. If it is a forged crank the balancer will be skinny, and if is a cast crank, it will be thick. Just like the 440 stuff. But either way it should work just fine, as long as you use the right balancer and torque converter. Why don't you just buy a cast stroker crank and get with the program. If it is going to be a street car with a small block, you don't really need a forged crank. The cast strokers can be had for about 300.00. The next piece of advice is to sell your 340 block to one of the resto guys, who think they are kool, and build a 360 stroker. It will kick butt on any 340 you will build. Earl this is an LA 318 crank, not a Poly 318 crank I am wondering about. I know its forged by the skinny balancer and i have heard tell the early 273s and 318s (LA) before 68 were all forged. Anybody else know if this will work in a 340 for a cheap way to a steel crank?????? Neal Zimmerman, Eugene oregon -- http://www.fastmail.fm - Same, same, but different.
