 The '64 trans would have had a single terminal switch in the
transmission, and grounded the wire in park or neutral. The reverse
lights were a separate switch located on the shifter or steering column
shift selector. If you are using a later model transmission, and the
three prong switch, you can test the prongs to find the correct terminal
for ground.
