Indeed, it was in effect almost a straight through exhaust and very 
unique and aggressive sounding, and looking!  

Funny story: back in 1965 in Massachusetts folks bought a new Formula S 
Barracuda at the dealer. The next year when they went to get their 
annual state  "safety inspection" many were getting flunked by the 
inspector because of excessively loud exhaust. Dealers were having to 
negotiate with the inspector for these irate customers who were coming 
in to the dealer saying "how can you sell me a new car that flunks 
inspection?"
