I had the same problem on my 65 500.
What I found is that there is a guide (a white plastic piece) that is part  
of the 
door latch that is spring loaded.What happens is the guide is supposed to  
give
the door latch some tension.The problem is the guide is supposed slide  back
on the spring but as it wears it ends up riding up on the striker making  the 
door
very hard to close all the way.I ended up moving the guide all the way back  
and
jambing a piece of metal in to keep it from moving any  more.
