Did it say their diameters were machined down on a lathe?
Assuming the Imperial bars are longer than most, that means they were softer 
than a shorter bar of the same diameter. Since the Imperial was among the 
heaviest models, the bars would also have been of a beefier diameter than 
the shorter counterparts.
What I'm getting at is that if you were to put a set of factory Imperial 
bars on a lathe and take some meat off of them, you'd get even better weight 
transfer on your AWB car.
