Thanks for all the great information regarding dwell and just what it is.
I like to know what I'm doing and why, rather than just going through the motions.

I have another question for the forum. well, OK a couple but I'll appreciate partial answers.
I was wondering why we plug the vacuum line off the carburetor when setting the timing on our engines.
I assume it's best to do when the engine is warmed up and we're at idle rpm engine speed.
It alters the idle a little. Is this intentional?
Are we defeating the vacuum advance in the distributor for a purpose?
Are we building vacuum in the carb or does it only go so far (fah)?
What's a good vacuum reading at idle? high idle?

My engine ('64 poly) seems to run better a degree beyond the 10 degrees btc, at 11.
So I'm rushing the spark a little more. Hmmmm.
But this is at idle with the vacuum advance disconnected.
Should I just "set it and forget it" (audience applause) at spec or is there some flexibility for wear?
Does the vacuum advance change the timing as the engine speed increases? Which way?

Timing effects dwell but dwell doesn't effect timing, I understand most of this.

Thanks campers!

Tom
