Most breakers are designed for 80% of their ratings for continuous use. 
A 20A. would be good for 16A. over the long haul. 12Ga. wire is rated 
for 20A. So what some of the guys are saying is right on. How long is 
the "extention cord" that is your permanent wiring in the walls? You 
might consider going to 10ga. just to be safe. Also, every connection is 
a small resistance and voltage drop. Keep the circuit as unbroken as you 
can. Use anti oxidant grease at any connections to make sure you don't 
get heat build up from oxidation, especially if there is aluminum 
present.
