Don't be too hard on yourself, I suspect we all have our stories, chalk it up 
to the learning curve.  

I certainly have paid dearly for what little I already have learned.  For 
example:  I bought a used single-plane "Dominator" manifold early in parts 
collection process, later sold it for less to buy an Eddy 440 dual-plane to go 
w/Eddy 750 & heads.  Even later, I saw the Eddy RPM manifold better in magazines, 
sold again cheaper to get the RPM version.  During engine build, builder was 
very strong in suggesting I get a......you guessed it....a Holley "Street 
Dominator" single-plane.  Did the deed again, so I guess you could say my current 
intake manifold cost (I don't even want to figure it out)....$400?

Just get your car running & the smiles will return.
