This sounds a lot like the intermittent no start problem I had.  In my case, 
it was the starter relay on the firewall, $15 bucks and so easy to change that 
one such as I could do it.

It's cheap enough it might be worth a try.  If doesn't help, then you have a 
spare for the in-car emergency toolbox.
