Except for cost. If you do go with a 8 3/4", buy a new one. Lots of places
make them now like Dr. Diff. It will run about $1200, but with the crazy
prices some people are getting for used A-body 8 3/4's(with no real idea of
condition) its worth the added cost.

Jim,
There's nothing wrong with the A body 8 3/4 rearend. Should be a bolt-in(
though I think you might have to change the driveshaft length), but they
are
almost bulletproof. If your going to be hitting it with the 273, I really
don't
see a problem there.
That would be my first choice, and gears are readily available for them.
