Perhaps a relay block with fusible links would help?

Well, I have my headlights on relays to take the load off the headlight
switch, but I'm not sure how a relay would be wired into the main system. The
basic mods I've read about for the electrical is to (1) run a heavy gauge wire
with fusible link from the alternator to the starter relay, (2) bypass the
amp gauge, and (3) attach fusible links to the main power harness going into
the dash area from the engine compartment. I've done #1, but not #2 or #3.
How would a relay work for the main power lead? I'd be really interested to
hear any ideas you might have on that.

Either way, I'm willing to "add" separate wiring runs because I can wrap it
so that it looks somewhat factory. But I'm hesitant to cut up my factory
harness to add stuff because I'm afraid it will look "hacked up". Kinda anal, I
know.

On a related note, I think grounding the extra field terminal will work with
the Denso alternator. The late model regulator that everyone uses for this
swap basically modulates the "ground" at the regulator, requiring two field
terminals (power to the alt, ground to the regulator). Our early model
regulator modulates the "power" side, and the alternator grounds thru the case. As
long as I use the retrofit solid state regulator, I'm thinking I'll be
alright. Of course, this is a simplified version of what actually goes on, and
I'm no electrical engineer, so I may be headed for trouble with this.
Hopefully not.....

The main thing now is whether or not it will physically fit on the engine
with the stock brackets AND line up correctly for the fan belt. I get back
home tomorrow, so I'll be able to do a trial fit on it.
