Re: turn signal/parking lights help




Imagine trying to explain to a 21 year old that the horn on a 56 Plymouth turns off with the key, that there are VENT WINDOWS on all four doors or that the little lights under the headlights are called parking lights, not marker lights.? 

BTW I'm? pretty?sure that both my 67 Satellite and 69 Charger did not light the parking lights when the headlights were on...I believe that innovation took place in the early Seventies.? Like my 73 Torino driver training car did have them.

The 65 Barracuda was the first or one of the first American cars to have 
the parking lights stay on with the headlights. By 1968 I believe it 
became a federal law, it was the same year that side marker lights or 
reflectors became manditory. 

There's two ways to add this to our cars. The first is to remove the 
parking light wire from the switch and splice it into the taillight 
wire. I've been doing this since the late 60's on my older cars and I've 
done it to my 63 Fury convert. Those cool parking lights were just 
begging to stay lit. LOL The second is to use a 65 Barracuda (not 
Valiant) headlight switch or any 68 on up Mopar headlight switch that 
was still a push pull type switch. Very common in trucks and vans and 
the curcuitry is built into the switch.

Kind of a funny side story. A friend of mine had a 56 Chevy and he took 
it to Goodyear for his NY State safety inspection. The young mechanic 
refused to pass it because the parking lights went out when the 
headlights were turned on. My friend had to get the store manager who 
was older to explain to the mechanic that it was normal for older cars 
not have the parking lights stay on with the headlights.

And while I'm on the subject of inspections another friend of mine just 
bought a 71 Dart Swinger. Again it wouldn't pass inspection because the 
horn button didn't work. That's when my friend had to point out that the 
car had a rim blow steering wheel. LOL
