Re: turn signal/parking lights help

Yup, the front park lights do indeed shut off when the headlights are turned on (I even went out and checked). 64 dodge 330 wagon. Sounds like a bad switch turn signal switch if you're having so much trouble, I believe everything about the front park lights (maybe the rear too??) goes through the turn signal switch, correct me if I'm wrong. The rear stay on, if they don't how are people supposed to see you from behind at night? Then again, I've had my fuse blow for the brake lights, and it started acting like this. But perhaps it was a coincidence? I also replaced my instrument cluster at one point because weird things kept happening. Like I'd turn on the right signal, and instead of the indicator for the signal flashing in the dash, the high beam indicator would flash and other weird things like that. Of course everything outside worked fine. The fuse for my brake lights blew due to a socket that had come loose from the body and was bouncing around in the tailgate of the car.

The backup lights are on their own signal, and there should be a switch in the transmission for that, perhaps it went bad?

By the way, my station wagon has the optional harness and extra sockets around the license plate (four total) like its supposed to brighten the license plate lights when I back up. Was this standard or an option? Everything is there, even the bulbs, except the correct switch in the tranny (not a period correct four speed so the switch wasn't compatible for some reason I don't remember).

I agree.? the feature of running the parking lights when the headlights are lit is a 70's and newer thing.? a 64 should not have parking lights lit when the headlights are on.

  Wayne,
On my '64 Belvedere, when I switch from parking lights to headlights,
the parking lights go off. I believe that is the way the switch is
  designed...Brian
