Re: New Guy questions

Where it is a 318, I dont know what intake you have on it, but one easy
upgrade is replacing the intake with an Edelbrock LD4B. They have
excellent Performance curves for 318's and 273's as well as match up to
the smaller ports on the head. With this, a mild 600CFM carter or
650CFM edelbrock could add a little umpf as well. These manifolds
havent been made for quite some time, but there is usually one or two on
e-bay. Anything under $175 is an excellent price. Dont confuse the
LD4B with the D4B. The D4B was meant to bolt onto the 64/65 273's and
has the bolt angle to fit those, vs the LD4B which has the correct angle
for 66 and newer small blocks.

If it doesnt have the A-Body HP exhaust under it, if you can find 65/66
273 manifolds, you can also upgrade to that. That will add a tuned
backpressure to and increase the horsepower output. I recently replaced
my old rusted HP exhaust system to a new one I purchased from Year-One.
It was almost a perfect fit, except I had to flatten part of the exhaust
where it clears the torsion-bar frame. (It wasnt square-Bend like the
original I pulled off). I used the moparts discount which basically
paid for their huge shipping costs. If it was an original V8 car, it
should have the rear valence cut to a square for the square resonator
end to exit on the drivers side. Not only does it add a little
horsepower, but it makes the car sound great.

Hope this helps in your planning.
