RE: Need off topic help

Personal Property Tax is a tax on PERSONAL property not a registration fee
or a license fee.. Same goes for a boat, it is your personal property even
if is not licensed. I'm guessing, but I believe some states give you a
registration when your personal property is taxed for the year. Other states
separate personal property and license fees and further they may have a
title for your vehicle which never expires even when inactivated for
storage. Of course you won't license it until you once again put it on the
road. A return to a licensed state may have an extra charge to reactivate.
WI sends you a yearly card for each vehicle which you send back with the
money then cometh the sticker for another year. There is a block whereby you
state the vehicle is out of service and will not be on the road. The title
stays in the system until you reactivate it. 2 bits, Mike

Ken,

Each municipal tax authority has it's own policy for collecting unpaid
taxes. Your PP tax on the car was for the period of registration up to
the time of cancellation with CT DMV or it's expiration. It does not
matter where the car is.

I would find out what the collection rules are for the city or town you
lived in. Find out if you can plea your case for a settlement or
something. The main thing is to find out what your liability is. As I
would advised my own son, check it out, these days liabilities can haunt
you. Some DMV's are now reciprocal with several states for unpaid taxes
as they are with violations such as No Bail Compact.

Just don't make deals with the Devil, (collection agency).
