Re: Starting problem

It's not a thermistor. A thermistor is a resistor designed to vary it's resistance with temperature, ideally in a known manner so you know what resistance you have at a given temperature. What you're talking about is a ballast resistor, which is just a wirewound resistor capable of handling a few watts of power, mounted in a ceramic housing. It gets hot, but that doesn't make it a thermistor. Yes, just about all Chrysler products back then had them. Ford usually used resistor wires in the dash harness. I don't know nor care what GM did.

Todd and all others. Did 65s and earlier have a thermal resistors or as
my dad called it a thermistor on the firewall. I had a 72 valiant and
when it went out i had nothing. He told me to disconnect the 2 wires
going to it and connect them and start the car. Sure enough it worked.
got me to the parts store to get another and solved the problem
My dad was a mopar mechanic for about 40 years and pretty much knew it
all. I believe my 64 has one on the firewall and i have considered
carrying a spare.
just another route to check out.
Good luck.

Just getting into this and need help!
