RE: Bringing Cars Into Canada

John,

I have purchased many cars long distance. I always insist on a copy of the
title
being faxed to me before purchase, and or setting out to retrieve the car.
To
protect yourself, make a copy of your title, then stamp it with the words
"Copy".
There is not anything anyone can do with a faxed copy of your title.

Put yourself in the purchasers position. What if there is something wrong
with
the title, and or the VIN is incorrect when they show up? It also sounds
like
you have some liability here also without a deposit before heading off.
Getting
anything into Canada can be a hassle.

Earl

In this day and age of treachery via scams, particularly in our hobby area,
I've grown a bit leary of sales involving borders.

I'm currently selling my Valiant and the prospective buyer, whom I just
spoke to, told me in order for him to get the car into Canada (Ontario) he
must fax the car title at least four days in advance to authorities there.
>From that point he would personally arrive, give me cash, pick the car up,
and head back to Canada. I would provide him the original title at the
point where he picked the car up.

My only hestitation is faxing a copy of the title to him? Anyone see
another way of doing this, or have you done it in the past? Thank you for
your assistance in this matter.
