I'm going to say do make sure its unlocked from the inside if the key won't unlock it. My guess is that a clip on the inside of the door has broken and isn't allowing the linkage to move to unlock the latch. You may need to get that door panel off and get inside of the door to see whats going on. You may have to pull seats if needed to remove your door panel depending on allowable room. It's sometimes a pain in the butt, but a must do to access the inside of the door. You may be able to pull the rod to the door latch once you gain access and release the latch allowing you to open the door.
