Didn't Mopar switch to a smaller water temp sender in the later years? I
think I'd look into getting a new one that fits before I'd drill and tap
your water pump housing.

Subject: Thread pitch and diameter of water temp sending unit
The hole for the water temp unit in the aluminum water pump housing I
bought for my '62 413 is much too small, so I'm going to have to drill and
tap a larger one. Can someone please tell me the diameter and thread
pitch of the early B/RB temp sending unit? I'm guessing 1/4-18 NPT, but
that's just a guess.
