Jim...thats probably the panel number you're seeing...the number the factory stamped on the panel/piece/part so the line workers knew which part went where. . If you check another sheet metal panel on your car , like your inner fenders for example, you will see the same number "pattern" stamped into them (they won't be the same numbers ,though)
Hope this helps... Darwin/Victoria BC/Canada '65 Cdn.Val.Custom 100 'vert 225/factory A833....eternal project '67 Dart GT 'vert... 273/904...now with "Collector" status http://s41.photobucket.com/albums/e285/65val/----- Original Message ----- From: "Jim Altemose" <jaltemoose@xxxxxxxxx>

Bill, I found the "M 37 1" stamped on the rad support a few inches down on the front face. My stickers are original and in great shape and I'm reluctant to mess with them. I'll try the mirror approach. Mainly I'm trying to understand the "M 37 1" stamping and it's meaning. I believe I'd find the same value stamped under the weather stripping in the trunk on the driver side edge. Since Fender Tags and core supports aren't integral parts of the car and can be tampered with, what I'd really like to know is if this stamping in the trunk can be used to help confirm or deny a car's authenticity. For instance, does it relate to anything on the broadcast sheet or the ibm card? I'm comfortable in my car's authenticity; I'm using it as an example. Thanks. - Jim On Thu, Aug 7, 2008 at 2:08 PM, Bill Watson <wwatson6@xxxxxxx> wrote:Jim, The "M 37 1" actually has nothing to do with either the VIN or SON. Your car's SON is "1001 0341" (scheduled built date - October 01, 1962).Did you find the "M 37 1" under the antifreeze sticker on the rad support? Iwould also take a small mirror and check the underside of the rad support for more numbers. My 63 Polara has "M 37 1" very clearly stamped on the radiator support. But the fender tag says: 1001 0341 642 655 MM1 and there's nothing in my VIN that would suggest a "37". It is usually prefixed by a code for the assembly plant and model year. The VIN was not stamped on unibody cars prior to 1968.
